Allez Cuisine!

When most people -- and by this I mean normal people -- get a new cookbook, they thumb through the book, oohing and ahhing over the potentially yummy titles and pictures and making mental notes of recipes to try in the future.

When TinyTuna got a new cookbook -- and by this I mean her Christmas present, Emeril's "There's a Chef in My Family!" -- she looked through the books, oohed and ahhed perfunctorily and then proclaimed she was cooking dinner.

The Princess of Microwave Popcorn was going to cook.

Not one little dish.

The whole thing.

Which she did.

And yes, it meant an extra trip to the grocery store to get some odds and ends and paying in the U-Scan line, which she loves. And yes, it meant spending essentially the entire day (on and off) measuring, mixing, cooking, cooling, tasting, and then having a little heart-to-heart about the part that they never show on The Food Network -- The clean up part -- and how it's the chef's responsibility to make sure the kitchen is NOT a disaster area left for some poor mother to take care of.

When all was said and done, last night we were treated to:

A fresh romaine salad, with homemade dressing and homemade croutons.

BBQ chicken, complete with homemade BBQ sauce.

Fresh steamed broccoli

Chocolate Mousse pie, with an Oreo cookie crust.

And my oh my oh my...BAM! It was unbelievably good!

It seems that indeed, we do have another chef in the family, which is awesome. Cooking promotes so many good habits. It's reading. It's science. It's logical thinking. It's math. It's creativity. It's community. It's caring for others. Maybe I didn't get as much done yesterday as I would have liked, but TinyTuna and I spent precious time together cooking, cleaning, tasting, laughing and having a grand old time. She said it was a great day.

And it was.

Huzzah! All hail Tiny Tuna and her entrée into the world of cooking! For my money, it's a more thrilling rite de passage than that other entrée into the world of womanhood... who is the other chef, do tell?

That is so cute. Of course, you realize I will have to get that book now. No, I have no kids, but what does it matter? Job well done, Tiny Tuna.

How great! And oh how they love the accomplishment....Kourtney has been cooking for a long time, and she's turning into a cook that doesn't measure, just pinches, scoops, etc. She does a good job- it's amazing to me though, she's had friends over, and she'll cook- and they are amazed! Because they don't know how at all! I've always told Kourtney that I'll never have to worry about her when she's on her own in regards to being able to grocery shop and cook to feed herself.....Good Job!

Awesome Tiny Tuna! The littlesherpa (almost 3) got 2 cookbooks and a set of mini baking pans. She loves to help me cook. I think we may make cupcakes this weekend.
