Tomorrow

Dear God.
If you haven't noticed, I did not mow the grass today.
I thought we talked about this. You were going to move
things along so I could salvage my day. God, we were
number ten. Ten! It should have been zip-zop all done
in an hour. But no. God, we were there from 1:45pm until
4:15pm. That wasn't nice. TinyTuna was Mach-10 on the
grumpy scale because she had to sit for so long. Mom too.
God, some day will you pass along some common sense
to all those in this world who force us to hurry up and wait?
Take your time. But please do it now. Thanks for your help
~~Green Tuna

Overall it went fine. She outsang the 9 she was with, she read extremely well (it helped that I got my hands on a script over the summer. Yay mom!), and danced fine. The only real problem, if you can call it that, is that when she is concentrating, she looks so serious that she might as well be auditioning for Lady MacBeth. It's hard for her to act like a carefree orphan, when she goes in all-about-businesslike. We'll see what happens. As I continue to tell her, every audition is a start-over. It is a try-out, and there are no guarantees. It's best that she keep hearing this now, because the day will surely come when she does not get cast.

Afterwards, we went home, changed clothes and ran off to Johnny Rockets for Dinner. This is the 50s-style diner with nickel jukeboxes at the table. TinyTuna loves to go there because the wait-staff dances to Love Shack and some other songs. They let her dance now. In fact, tonight, when we walked in, about four different people saw her and said "hey, it's the girl who dances!" She loved it. When Love Shack came on, the waiter came up to her and asked, "Are you ready?" and out she went and danced with the crew. It was as if you could see all the stress of the day fall off her shoulders. They also started teaching her the routine to Arthea Franklin's "Respect". Good times.

Next? Well, bookstore, natch. Yikes. I need bookstore intervention. Except, not. Books am good. Big books, small books, books that climb on rocks. Love me some books. Todays winners?

Dude, Where's My Country? by Michael Moore.
Anti-shrubitude.
Bushwhacked : Life in George W. Bush's America by Molly Ivins and Lou Dubose.
Can you tell I was at the political table? Hee!
Readings : Essays and Literary Entertainments by Michael Dirda
I love, love love essayists. There's nothing like getting to the point in 10 pages or less.
Life: The Odds (And How to Improve Them by Gregory Baer
It says "What are the Chances you will: Date a Supermodel -- Bowl a Perfect Game -- Be Possessed by Satan -- Win an Academy Award -- And More!" Heh. Sounds like the perfect book for the throne room.
Old Turtle and the Broken Truth by Douglas Wood.
Childrens book which packs a whallop of a message. 2003 sequel to "Old Turtle".
Plus... "Eating Well" and "Cooking Light" Magazines
Plus...plus...The New Yo-Yo Ma CD featuring Brazillian music, Eddie Izzard Comedy CD "Circle", Jane Monheit Jazz CD, and a super cheapie CD featuring the original orchestration for "West Side Story".

All in all, a good trip.

A last stop was at Maggie Moo's, an ice-cream store where they mix-in stuff into your ice cream. I did Raspberry Sorbet so my insides wouldn't stage a revolt. It was yummy. We ate outside and I gave TinyTuna five pennies to throw into the fountain. You know she was probably out there going "Annie!"..... (plunk) "Annie!" .... (plunk) "Annie!" .... (plunk) "Annie!" ... (plunk) "Annie!" .... (plunk) ... I'm just glad the day is over. We'll see how things go.
